Going South // Vienna

Danube - Vienna

Danube – Vienna

This is probably the last post for some time. Worry not, like Pink Panther I am coming back. The title of this post actually has two meanings. First, south is where the Danube (yeah the freaking river in the picture) is going from Vienna on…and east…touching the Balkans before it ends its almost 3,000km journey in the Black Sea. Nearly all countries along the river are worth a visit…I suppose as I haven’t seen any of them (yeah, shame on me) except Austria, but this is where I come from so I guess it doesn’t really count? I took the picture while walking the hills north of the city with beautiful views and vineyards along the way. A 10-15 minute bus ride takes you out of a 2-million city and there you are. Eating and drinking in a Heuriger (wine tavern with locally produced wine and food) in the middle of vineyards…fantastic.

Second, I am going south…and west…waaaaaayyy west, putting my feet on central american soil in Belize for the first time. I have been to Cuba and to North America before, but what’s coming up is new and I am extremely excited. Also, for the first time travelling on my own and I can’t wait to feel the experience. Plus, I booked the deal of my life with these guys…a three day sailing trip through the Caribbean with two overnight stays in tents on two small, tropical paradise islands (triple-yey!!!), namely Rendezvous Caye and Tobacco Caye (both uninhabited or only sparsely populated). What we will eat you ask? What we (read: the crew) will catch while we swim and snorkel in the Caribbean. Diving is before and after the sailing on Caye Caulker and in Placencia for the whale sharks…keep your fingers crossed that these gentle animals cross my way ;-). And that I understand my dive computer until then :-).

As always, enjoy what you are doing…summer is coming!!!

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” (Mark Twain)
