Torre Des Savinar // Eivissa

Torre des Savinar - Eivissa

Torre des Savinar – Eivissa

I owe you all a picture of Torre des Savinar. Here it is. Eivissa is full of these old fortifications which provided an early warning system of approaching pirates, who raided the island on a regular schedule. Watchmen would light fires, much like the guys in Lord of the Rings did (hey LOTR-nerds). People could find shelter in castles, churches or inland. Unfortunately, the “watchman” was on siesta when I arrived…during opening hours (!!!). No worries, otherwise I would have never tried walking round the tower to discover this spot behind it. Cheers to the lazy watchman…

The two rocky islands in the back are Es Vedra and Es Vedranell (the smaller one)…said to be the third most magnetic point of the world. Others claim that the islands are the tip of sunken Atlantis or a hiding place for E.T. and his friends…myth or truth?…I don’t know, and I couldn’t care less. Whatever your conviction, it is stunningly beautiful and certainly a captivating eye-catcher. So go there. And phone home…
